Land of Dreams

This photo demonstrates the effectiveness of the technique called layering, to convey a mood or an idea. In this case with my creation, Land of Dreams, contains multiple shots of the famous Disneyland castle. A gradient of pink and blue was used in background as various photos of the castle were over laid on top of one another with different levels of opacity. This also creates a faded and hazy feeling. Then a photo of fireworks that was also taken in Disneyland was placed behind the castle to give out a magical feeling. In the end, a hand drawn photo of the castle was placed on top to create juxtaposition, but to also convey the idea about bringing ideas from paper to life.

 

The photograph has a main general focus in the center, which is the castle. There is more emphasis onto the castle because the position of the subject matter is placed in the middle. This also creates a symmetrical balance on both sides, especially since the fireworks in the background are equal on both sides. 

 

My artwork was inspired by the wonderful memory I experienced last year with my family. Last summer, my family and I went on a vacation to Florida and we all enjoyed our time in Disneyland. As a girl who grew up watching Disney movies, and who has a passion for art and animation, I relished the fact that I got to feel that magical feeling I had when I was a kid.

 

The ending result of my artwork kind of turned out how I expected it to be. After looking back at my work, I feel as though the photo may be too light. If I had more time, I would have tried different ways in making a more concrete filter. However, I liked how the light-hearted mood within the photo due to the various default filters and opacity levels. In addition, through the progress of this assignment, I learned how to use the layering technique, which was a good learning experience because I can use this method for future projects. What I would do differently next time is that I would take my own photographs isntead of using source images because it would be a great way to explore further into this assignment.
